Common Questions

What if my return volume exceeds the plan limit?

ReturnSense will flag your account when you approach 90% of your monthly return limit. You can upgrade mid-cycle with prorated billing, or continue processing returns at $0.15 per additional return above the limit. Most merchants upgrade within 60 days once they see the time savings in their dashboard.

The overage model exists because we prefer you stay on the platform rather than lose classification data. Enterprise tools charge penalties or suspend access; we charge the difference and let you scale transparently.

How does ReturnSense compare to a generic analytics tool?

Generic analytics tools report what happened after returns occur—SKU counts, return rates by product, seasonal spikes. ReturnSense classifies *why* each return happened, enabling upstream interventions.

A generic tool tells you 12% of returns cite "defective product." ReturnSense tells you which specific SKUs, suppliers, or order date ranges correlate with defect reports—enabling targeted quality reviews rather than blanket policy changes. The classification is the input; analytics are the output.

Additionally, ReturnSense syncs directly to Shopify return metaobjects, eliminating manual spreadsheet exports that generic tools require.

Is the per-return cost predictable for budgeting?

Yes. Your plan specifies a fixed monthly return limit. You receive a dashboard showing current usage by the 15th of each month, with alerts at 75% and 90% thresholds. Historical volume data from your Shopify admin shows return trends—most merchants find their volume is consistent enough to select the correct plan tier.

For merchants with highly seasonal volume (e.g., holiday-heavy apparel), annual billing with a tier matching your peak month avoids mid-cycle upgrades. We do not recommend selecting a lower tier and relying on overage pricing as a primary strategy.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your classification data remains accessible for 90 days after cancellation in read-only mode. After 90 days, data is deleted from our production systems per our retention policy. You can export all historical classifications as CSV at any time during the active subscription or during the 90-day grace period.

We do not sell or transfer your return data to third parties. API keys are revoked immediately upon cancellation. Shopify metaobject entries created by ReturnSense remain in your store but lose the classification attribute—manual re-entry would be required to restore them.

Do you offer discounts for annual billing?

Annual billing provides approximately two months free—priced at 10 months instead of 12. For the Starter plan, this reduces effective cost from $49/month to $40.83/month. Annual plans are paid upfront and are non-refundable except in cases of service unavailability exceeding 72 continuous hours.

We do not currently offer startup discounts, non-profit pricing, or volume discounts beyond the tier structure. If your return volume exceeds 5000/month, our Sales team can discuss enterprise pricing with custom SLAs.

How accurate is the classification compared to manual review?

ReturnSense achieves 94.2% agreement with human labelers on the 8 primary return reason categories in internal testing. Accuracy on secondary subcategories (e.g., distinguishing "changed mind" from "wrong size" within apparel) drops to 87.6%—which still outperforms rule-based systems that require manual category definitions.

We publish accuracy benchmarks by category in our documentation. Merchants can flag misclassifications directly in the dashboard, and flagged items improve future model performance for your account. Misclassification is not covered by SLA but is tracked as a support metric.
